The Playboy party for The Coup at Elaine's in New York.
JUNE 11
The July issue of Playboy hits the stands,
containing
an excerpt of The Coup. The excerpt, a shortened version of the
first chapter of the novel, is called State of the Union, an apt
title since it takes place at the State of the Union address, and is about
the relationship between the President, Jack Mahone, and his vice president,
Godwin Pope. The piece was superbly edited by Amy Grace Loyd, who is the
magazine's literary editor, and who was the first and most helpful reader
of The Coup, and who's just too marvelous for words. Click
here to read the excerpt.
